Education

I am a graduate of Northeast Mississippi Community College and Mississippi State University with a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Elementary Education.  I also carry a K-12 Computer Certification, K-12 Reading Certification, and two areas of concentration in Social Studies and Science.

Experience

This is my 26th year of teaching at Chickasaw Elementary School in DeSoto County.  I have had the opportunity of teaching both second and third grade levels.

Bio

Hello, my name is Sylenda Lacy Janes.  I am from Hickory Flat, Mississippi.  I graduated from Hickory Flat Attendance Center.  I received my Associates Degree from Northeast Mississippi Community College.  I graduated with honors from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Elementary Education.  I also carry a K-12 Computer Certification, K-12 Reading Certification, and two areas of concentration in Science and Social Studies.  This is my 26th year of teaching at Chickasaw Elementary School.  I have had the opportunity of teaching both second and third grade levels.  I have served on numerous committees and been named grade chair  for several years.  I am married to Whitney Janes.  We have two sons, Wesley and Will. Wesley is starting his Junior year at Mississippi State University. Will is a Senior at OBHS. We are members of Olive Branch First Baptist Church. My husband and I have worked with the Children's Ministry for several years.  My husband and I have also served as leaders for the Olive Branch Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts Pack/Troop #234. Whit is currently the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #234. I enjoy spending time with my family, vacationing in the mountains and at the beach, kayaking, hiking, and traveling.  Each year brings new and wonderful experiences to our classroom.  I know YOU will make our class special!
